Hot Yoga Topics > I Can't/I CAN

Whether you think you can or you think you can't, in both cases you're right. You tend to fulfill the words you speak. What happens if you replace I Can't with I Can? Tell one time you substituted I CAN for I CANT - and what happened?

I got a good one for ya... so I was talking to one of my best loved fellow yogis last week and she was asking me to hang with her for the weekend. Right away that tense feeling came up in my throat.... "Ughhhh, WORK. UGHHH. RETAIL." Purely negative. But then thanks to everything I learned about what feels good to say and or not to say I wrote out this text. "I am going to find a job that work with my schedule and within walking distance of a vegetarian restaurant. And gives me the luxury of a positive work environment and weekends off..." Well, the universe answered I was returning something at Whole Foods the other day and the Team Leader asked if I was still interested in a job (I had searched it out a few weeks ago) Now I have an interview tomorrow at 2.... Send me good vibes!!!!

Won't it be cool, Alex, when you're surprised if the stuff you ask for doesn't instantly manifest lol? Of course then you simply know that the timing is being worked out and you can relax . Congratulations on focusing on what you want in a job and letting it find you.Yes, you can! Btw is it the Whole Foods in Middletown? That is one of the friendliest stores ever... Talk about a perfect fit.

PS ... Watch the 100 word limit... Being concise is a lovely skill to have

I was going to text you this one but I want everyone to see it.... I left yoga today sweaty and in need of shower before the interview. I specifically thought "Wouldn't it be nice if there was gym where I could just pop in and shower quickly"? Boom. Driving through bridgewater not even 10 minutes later. A retofitness was on my left... Crazy?

So your "I can" statement (wouldn't it be lovely if I could find a shower before my interview) skipped right over the " I can't shower " thought and there you have it... Crazy alright... Like a fox!

Been having a hell of a time uploading/downloading. Kristina has been an angel with this and for me tonight. Altho still not able to get Intro video from youtube to my personal page, she did help me to finally upload my Vision Board pic. Although it posted upside down! We left it like that for me to go back to another time and try to correct later. But after hanging up with her, I thot I can do this...so I went into iPhoto, got a new pic and uploaded it in correct direction to my page. Big for me! Thanks Kristina!!

Woohooo! Notice that your I Can thought preceded your victory.. It's no accident! Notice too that you are still telling I Can't stories about video uploading. So can you make some more positive Can statements about your video abilities?

I was feeling overwhelmed to begin TT since things have recently ramped up at work, more hours/responsibility. While that is exciting, I worried: can I do both? I would wake up saying, "I CAN'T do this!". I had a conversation with my BF who said I should change my mindset. So I sat down, I mapped out everything and budgeting each day, each week. Once I saw it in black and white on a calendar, I felt a whole lot better. While it will be challenging, I CAN do this.

When I say I can't I feel powerless.

October 11, 2014 | Registered CommenterAlfia

When you say I Cant,, you ARE powerless, Alfia, Picture yourself turning off the light switch and your brain going dark each time you say it.

The good news: I CAN turns the light on even brighter than before.

It only takes one small bulb to bring the light....but one vital switch turned off can through the world into darkness

This is the point. This is what makes this difficult. I want to feel and I am powerful. To start with the I can't meaning to bring yourself to the state of powerlessness.

My entire being arises against it! I don't allow myself to go to that starting point. It does not work for me! If I intentionally go to the I can't first, I will not get out of bad. Then the first I can'ts you here is I can't live. I can't breathe. I can't see another day! What is the .... point to live another day?! How do you like that?! I was there. I already did that trip. Why and what for to get back to that?! It does not reflect today! When I want to move forward, when I am ready to live and love, and cherish every moment of my beautiful precious life because I AM WORTH IT!!!

I counted 5 I Cants in your explanation of why you cant do the I Can'/I Cant assignment

Ironic,

There is no question that you have I Can'ts Alfia - every time you are late to class, that is an unconscious, I cant.

I am not saying you start your day with I Cant or make it so that you dont get out of bed. I am saying that you OBSERVE your I Cant statements that you make throughout your day,

You are also saying "I already did that trip." As I mentioned last week, the three most dangerous words in the english language and the ones that will keep you stuck in Phase 3 Conscious Competence rather than progressing t to Phase 4 Unconscious Competence, are "I know that." Each time you hear yourself saying some version of this, know that you are not open to learning something new....and if you are not expanding then what is the point of living, breathing or going on to see another day?
